History of PlayStation 3
The PlayStation3 was introduced to the public on May 16, 2005 by Sony
along with its original returning boomerang style controller. The
product was launched during the E3 2005 conference. The functional
version of the game was not presented then but a demonstration of some
games like Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots were presented on
comparable PC hardware and devkits.
The prototype shown in May 2005 featured two HDMI ports, three Ethernet
ports and six USB ports but the system shown at the E3 conference 2006
featured only one HDMI port, one Ethernet port and four USB ports, most
probably due to cost cutting. Two hardware configurations were also
announced for the console - a 20 GB model priced $499 and a 60 GB model
priced $599. The 60 GB model was the only configuration to feature an
HDMI port, Wi-Fi internet, flash card readers, a chrome trim and the
logo in silver. Both the models were announced for release on November
11 for Japan, and November 17 for North America and Europe.

The Launch
According to Media Create, around 81,639 PS3 systems were sold within 24
hours of introduction in Japan. The gaming console was then released in
North America followed by a mega launch in Europe, Australia, the Middle
East, Africa and New Zealand on March 23, 2007. On March 7, 2007, the 60
GB PlayStation3 was launched in Singapore with a price tag of $799. The
console was launched in South Korea on June 16, 2007 in a single version
with an 80 GB hard drive and IPTV.
The North American release met with heavy violence. Many people were
injured while they camped over night to be the first owner of
PlayStation3. Fights broke out and campers were robbed at gun point.
Changes made
The last reported change made in PlayStation3 was announced at the Tokyo
Game Show on September 22, 2006 when Sony said that there would be a
HDMI port available on the 20 GB PS3 Consoles. But this won’t include
the flash card reader, Wi-Fi, and the chrome trim.
The past of PS3
With the launch of PS1 in 1994, people were introduced with new ideas of
gaming. The 007 games started attracting people to shooter genre. Soon
the analog stick was introduced with the PS1 controller and after some
years they introduced a smaller version of it which was more compact but
having the same features. Somewhere around 1998 Sony began the "PS2
project." When it was launched, the response was cold because it lacked
good launch games. But soon PS2 started getting better by including
games like the GTA series, Ratchet and Clank and more of the James Bond
games. But the best advantage of PS2 was that the PS1 games can be
played in PS2.
In 2003, Sony began the PS3 project and it was officially launched on
May 16, 2005.
